Privacy
This page describes how the SmartShift UK website behaves. It was written in October 2026 to match the pages as they are published. It is a plain description, not legal advice.
The site
SmartShift UK is a free static calculator at https://www.smartshift-uk.com/. There is no account or comment box. The calculator runs in your browser. You can choose to sign up for a weekly email (see Weekly email).
Weekly email
If you enter your email address in a sign-up form on this site, it is sent to MailerLite (MailerLite Limited, our email service) and stored there so the weekly tariffs email and welcome emails can be sent.
A confirmation email is sent first. You are not added until you click the link in that email.
The lawful basis is consent. You can withdraw it at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email. After that, the address is deleted or marked unsubscribed.
MailerLite records opens and clicks to show which content is useful. The address is never sold, and it is not shared with Octopus, Amazon, or anyone else.
Some emails contain paid links (Amazon Associates and the Octopus referral). Those links are labelled “paid link”.

After a sign-up is sent, this browser stores the local storage key smartshift_signup_done with the value 1. That is not a cookie, it is not sent anywhere, and it is cleared when you clear this site’s data.
Hosting on Netlify
The published site is hosted by Netlify. When your browser requests a page, Netlify receives the usual technical details needed to serve it, such as your IP address, the page you asked for, and your browser’s user agent. Netlify describes its own handling of that information in its privacy notice: netlify.com/privacy.
Google Analytics
Google Analytics 4 is not requested until you press Accept. Reject does not load the script, and this site does not send a cookieless Analytics ping while you are still deciding. If this browser already has accepted stored, the script is added when the next page opens.
After you accept, the browser requests googletagmanager.com and Google Analytics can store cookies such as _ga and _ga_<container-id>, which Google describes as lasting for up to two years. The reports can include the pages you open, a rough location derived from your IP address, your device and browser, and how you arrived. Google’s own description is at

To withdraw consent, use in the footer of any page, then press Reject. Reject deletes the Analytics cookies this site can see and stops the script loading on later pages. You can also clear this site’s cookies in your browser.
Cookie choice
The banner offers Accept and Reject with the same size of button. Your choice is stored in this browser under the local storage key smartshift_cookie_choice, as accepted or rejected. That value stays on your device so the banner can stay closed and the same choice can apply on every page. It is not sent to SmartShift UK as a form. You can remove it by clearing this site’s data. An older key, smartshift_cookie_ok, is no longer used and does not count as consent for Analytics.
Amazon and Octopus can set their own cookies after you click one of their links. Those cookies are on their sites. This site cannot read them.
Google Fonts
Pages load the Plus Jakarta Sans and Space Grotesk fonts from Google (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com). Your browser contacts Google to fetch those files, so Google receives your IP address as part of that request. Google’s policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.
Tailwind CSS
The layout script is loaded from https://cdn.tailwindcss.com. Your browser requests that file from the Tailwind CDN when a page opens.
Amazon Associates
Some links go to Amazon UK and include the affiliate tag smartshiftuk-21. If you follow one, you leave this site. Amazon can record that the visit came from SmartShift UK, and qualifying purchases can earn this site a commission. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Octopus referral link
Octopus buttons use the referral URL share.octopus.energy/noble-shell-23. Clicking it takes you to Octopus Energy, which can tell that you arrived from this site. Any cookies after that click are set by Octopus. Octopus describes its own handling of personal information at octopus.energy/policies/privacy-policy.
